THE RECALIBRATION OF ONE’S SELF (THE RELATIONSHIP OF ADRIAN AND IAN)
Project Statement
In The Recalibration of One’s Self (The Relationship of Adrian and Ian) , I take self-portraits to centralize the discussion of various narratives regarding my own experiences with sex work. Doing so will also further my own recalibration of self and the relationship to humanize myself and invite others to the multiple selves and a crisis and conflict of identity for sex workers that most don’t consider. I will remove the background and other objects with no meaning in the composition to have floating figures that force the audience to be confronted with the portraits but also be invited to have breathing room to fill the negative space with their own perspectives and assumptions. By doing this I am able to have discussions about sex work and how I am effected by it. While I use styling and creating characters within myself I also allow myself to be shortly detached from it. This lack of information within the material plane emphasizes the responsibility the audience has on the issues sex workers face due to the fact that even if they are not direct participants of sex work they impact it nonetheless whether that be financially, systematically, or their own personal assumptions and prejudice.
